St Peters – The city of St. Peters government-access channel, St. Peters TeleVision (SPTV), is now available on on AT&T’s digital television network, U-Verse.
The city’s new Granicus encoding technology allows SPTV to send a live cable feed over the internet and the U-Verse network simultaneously. This improvement will significantly expand the reach of SPTV programming - digitally distributing it to the web, over cable, and on digital TV.
“We’re thrilled to be able to provide SPTV on U-Verse and give our residents and businesses as well as other interested viewers, important information on St. Peters programs, events, news, information and other issues,” said Mayor Len Pagano. “With our SPTV programming also available live and on-demand at our website, www.stpetersmo.net, we are able to provide information to people at their convenience. And great communication is one of our top priorities.”
St. Peters was able to cut costs in their AT&T U-Verse deployment by leveraging their existing partnership with Granicus, Inc, the nation’s leading provider of government webcasting solutions. By implementing the company’s new simulstream encoder, Granicus® Outcast Encoder®, St. Peters can webcast and broadcast on TV to the new digital network. With this technology, the city can increase accessibility, while decreasing the overall costs of distribution and maintenance.

The City of St. Peters is the first city in the nation to use the new version of the Outcast Encoder. The technology was designed specifically for local governments to support both live webcasting and live distribution of cable content to new digital home video and television networks such as ATT's U-Verse. The Encoder uses simulstream software technology to simultaneously encode multiple streams of audio and video at different resolutions and bit rates – from a single output. Also, with Granicus, content producers control when, where, and how their content is distributed and accessed online using live indexing capability, video trimming, automatic web publishing, long-term archiving, and keyword search.
